In 2005, to facilitate a deeper understanding of remote place patients, we introduced group work whereby groups of students rotated through the same patient. Results from a qualitative analysis of the students' clinical evaluation revealed twelve categories describing rural subjects' way of life and sense of values. 1. Affluence. 2. Mundane. 3. Inconveniences. 4. Creative ness. 5. Maintenance. 6. Helplessness and loneliness. 7. Neighborhood solidarity. 8. Social role. 9. Social support. 10. Independence. 11. Understanding and appreciation of life. 12. Family support. We compared the categories with those of the previous year. Results revealed that the students improved their understanding of rural life as shown by their increased number of specific comments, and their positive perceptions.
